An Asbestos at Home

How to Remove Asbestos?

If asbestos is found in your home, and you want to remove it before a renovation or before you demolish the house. It's not always an easy decision on whether you remove the asbestos or hire someone.

Although you can legally remove the asbestos yourself by following guidelines provided by the regulatory agency, we strongly encourage you to hire a certified asbestos abatement contractor to remove any asbestos. The work is difficult, time-consuming, and dangerous to you and your family’s health if procedures and regulations are not strictly followed.

The cerfitied experts, on the other hand, have specialized equipment and training and employ techniques to control asbestos fibers not available to homeowners. In addition, asbestos removal work is physically demanding, requiring a respirator, non-breathable coveralls, rubber gloves and boots, working in high humidity and on wet, slippery surfaces.

And then there's the work of decontamination, or clearance after the removal of the asbestos. It done improperly, asbestos may contaminate your home and suspend in the air causing big health threat to you and your family.

As a option, the means for a homeowner to remove the asbestos found is there. First, they have to meet the test: the house should be an owner- occupied, single-family non-multiple unit home. The term single-family home includes houses, mobile homes, trailers, detached garages, houseboats, and houses with a mother-in-law apartment or guest room. This term does not include rental property or multiple- family units, nor does it include any mixed-use building that contains a residential unit.

If you meet that criteria, the next step is to abtain instructional guidelines from the regulatory agency. If you feel you need assistance, please call us, and we'll provide you guide you to locate these guidelines.

The existing guidelines include:

-How to Properly Remove Spray-on 'Popcorn' Ceilings From Owner-Occupied, Single-Family Residences Only
-How to Properly Remove Sheet Vinyl Flooring with Asbestos Backing From Owner-Occupied, Single-Family Residences Only
-How to Properly Remove Cement Asbestos-Board Siding From Owner-Occupied, Single-Family Residences Only
-Method of Removal for Nonfriable, Asbestos-Containing Material.

If you decide to hire a certified asbestos abatement contractor, you can call us, and we'll provide you the information for finding one, or you can consult the phone book to find one.
