Builders' Page
Although asbestos aling with other hazardous materials have been eliminated from home building products, the following are areas a home builder may keep an watchful eye.
Debris Remnants on Building Site
If there's debris of any kind, have them tested for asbestos. Things like old cloth, wires, pieces of furniture may contain asbestos.
Naturally Occurring Asbestos in Soil
Asbestos may be found in soil that is formed from the erosion of asbestos-bearing rock.
Such is the case in El Dorado Hills, California where warnings were put on for new homes with regards to the naturally occurring asbestos in the area. This naturally occurring asbestos is common in some areas. The notice, known as the Proposition 65 warning stated that naturally-occurring asbestos (NOA) are present in The Promontory Village 4, El Dorado Hills, California also known as Montecito at The Promontory and it is known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harms
The prudent practice should have the surrounding soil and rocks tested for asbestos before building a new home, especially an expensive one.
