SEAMLESS DATA MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING SYSTEMS
Seattle Asbestos Test realizes that Microscopic data quality relies on precisely aligned instrumentation and highly trained analysts. The analysts perform quality control sample analyses and duplicate and replicate field sample analyses to ensure that data is accurate and reproducible.
For PCM analysis, laboratory blanks are prepared and analyzed and the microscopes are aligned daily prior to sample analysis. To ensure analyst accuracy, daily counts of archived quality control samples is performed. Approval of the analyst’s daily QC sample counts must be obtained from the Quality Manager prior to the analysis of field samples. Duplicate analyses are performed 10% of the total number of samples analyzed. Replicate analyses by a second qualified PCM analyst are performed at a rate of 5% of the total number of samples analyzed. Seattle Asbestos Test also participate in round robin with other laboratories and through proficiency testing by certification authorities, such as NVLAP. The QA department maintains the records of round robin exchanges and proficiency test results. By doing so, it’s assured that the field sample data is analyzed in an acceptable system. Analysis is halted and the discrepancy must be addressed and resolved , if quality control checks prior to or during analyses indicate that the system doesn‘t meet the requirements.. Analysis can resume only if the system is returned to an acceptable status.
For PLM, analysts must align their microscopes, and analyze blanks and check for contamination of oils and preparation materials and tools. Ten percent of the total samples analyzed are re-analyzed by another analyst. Duplicate analyses are performed by each analyst on 10% of the total number of samples analyzed. Quality control proficiency standards with known asbestos type and quantity are analyzed weekly along with field samples. PLM accuracy is also achieved by participation in round robin exchanges with other laboratories and through proficiency testing by certification authorities, such as NVLAP. The records of round robin exchanges and proficiency test results are available upon requests by the clients.
If quality control checks prior to analyses indicate that the system doesn’t meet quality standards, the analysis is halted and the discrepancy is resolved. Analysis does not resume until the system is returned to an acceptable status.
