Steve (Fanyao) Zhang, Laboratory Director & President
Steve (Fanyao) Zhang studied Geology in his early career, obtaining his B.S. in Petroleum Geology at Geological University of China, in 1980 in Wuhan, China. He earned his M.S. in Petroleum Geology at the Beijing Graduate School of the same university in 1983 in Beijing. He then taught as an assistant professor in Yangtze University, China from 1984 to 1988.
Steve came to the U.S in 1988 and became a research assistant at Louisiana State University, studying sedimentary patterns of petroleum reservoirs. He was a PhD candidate at Pennsylvania State University from 1990 to 1993, specializing in Computer Modeling of Sedimentary Processes. Steve’s background in Geology and Mineralogy provided him foundation for asbestos analysis. Accumulatively, he has studied asbestos for the last 30 years.
As the Laboratory Director, Steve is responsible for assuring that Seattle Asbestos Test, LLC resources are adequately allocated to specific projects, sufficient staffing, equipment, and support are in place, and satisfactory services are provided to clients. Mr. Zhang oversees the Laboratory Manager, the Marketing Manager, the Q/A Manager and all other personal, and makes the ultimate decisions on every phase of the laboratory operations.

Weilong Tai, Laboratory Manager
As Laboratory Manager, Weilong Tai works under the supervision of the Lab Director, and is responsible for assuring that the clients are getting timely and satisfactory services, the laboratory operations are smooth, all analysts and personnel are performing efficiently, the samples are received, processed, and stored properly, the supplies are maintained at the right level and spent efficiently, and that the procedures are written and followed with the guidelines of NVLAP accreditation. Weilong Tai is familiar with the accreditation of different organizations and agencies, and able to independently achieve and maintain these accreditations . Weilong’s duty also includes assisting the work of the department mangers. Weilong holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Qingdao University, China.
Quality Assurance Manager
The QA Manager has the following main responsibilities: (1) Monitoring the QA and QC activities of the laboratory to ensure conformance with authorized policies, procedures, and good laboratory practices, and recommending improvements as appropriate, (2) Informing specific Department Managers of noncompliance with the approved QA/QC standards, (3) Ensuring that all records, logs, standard operating procedures (Standard Operation Procedure), project plans, are well maintained and readily to be retrieved, and (4) Ensuring that Standard Operation Procedures and other controlled documents are distributed to all appropriate laboratory employees. Steve (Fanyao) Zhang is acting as the QA Manager, and the search for a permanent QA Manager is under way.
