Proficiency and Requirements
With employment length up to 9 months, able to handle adequate sample load with acceptable accuracy. The QA/QC rate is 100%. Undergoing training with NIOSH 7400 and NIOSH 582. Able to independently describe samples with 50% accuracy up to 4 layers. In terms of slide preparation, able to prepare most insulation samples correctly, and able to prepare some NOB samples. No major mistakes in color and content description of PLM bulk samples. PLM Microscope skills required include the following: able to identify Chrysotile independently, and Amosite, Crocidolite with limited assistance. Able to identify Cellulose, Glass Fiber, Sythetic Fibers, Mineral Wools. No major mistakes with recognizing morphology and color of the above two types of asbestos. When measuring refractive indices, the allowed range is mo more than 0.01. Some concept of sign of elongation, 50% conformance when measuring birefringence. Good concept of extinction. In regards to participation of PAT rounds, trainings are under way for AIHA, NVLAP, Inter-Lab Rounds and Intra-Lab Rounds. In terms of PLM testing Methods, start to understand EPA 600/R-93/116, EPA 600/M4-82-020, OSHA ID 191, NIOSH 9002. Training on EPA Point Count, and gravimetric methods. Start training on Beckline method, Dispersion Staining for both Central and Annular Methods. Have some idea about microscope set up and adjustment.
